1800 Bath in Master Bathroom- Is it a Good Idea?

1800 Bath in Master Bathroom- Is it a Good Idea

A couple of weeks ago, I was replacing my vanity unit as the older one was too outdated when my bathroom fitter started discussion about master or family bathroom renovations. One thing that made me a bit surprised is that most of his clients are replacing their master 1800 Bath with a shower enclosure. I asked myself, we British people have always been bath lovers, What the heck has happened that we started removing the bathtubs for good? While there may be many reasons for that as my plumber says that no one has time for long soaking baths these days, showers are quick and stylish, and that is what makes more sense. Well, I was completely unaware of this trend. At least none of the home improvement channels I watch ever suggested replacing a bathtub with a walk-in shower a becoming a huge trend in the UK.

Is Replacing an 1800 Bath with a Shower Enclosure a Trend?

While if you look on the internet, you will come across a lot of blog posts about ways to replace a bathe for a shower enclosure. But is it really a trend. After researching I discovered that the 1800 bath installation usage has decreased over time. However, its only the case where people have only a one bathroom that’s has limited space available. So, people think it is too much space that’s bath is occupying. That’s why a shower would have been a better option. Even if it is not for the shower, such space can be suitable for adding a new vanity unit or something more functional.

What’s the use of bathtub when I no more going to take. If you dig further into this matter, you will find that the trend is generally limited to small bathrooms. While the homes with multiple bathroom or bigger house only removing the bathtubs from master bathroom. It is because they prefer these amenities near the children’s rooms or any other bathroom. So, it is a matter of priority when it comes to bathing.

What are my personal thoughts about having an 1800 bath or a Shower?

The bathtub I have in my master bathroom has been there for the last many years. Though I don’t know how a deep bathtub feels like, I don’t consider myself to be a bath enthusiast nor a shower lover. It’s just what I think is suitable at specific times. However, I have had baths at least once a week in the last couple of years. I don’t follow a lot of bathroom design trends so I would be the last person who will jump into something new. So, I care less about trends and functionality more.

I believe trends change and we should not run behind it. What if the trend of having an 1800 bath starts again would you go again removing your walk-in shower. Is it not too much of a hassle for nothing? Perhaps, it is more important to care about what is more important to you. At least comfort is a higher priority.

In addition, I think about how removing an 1800 bath would affect the value of the property from a resale point of view. Would it not make it less attractive to potential buyers? Though I am not going to sell my home in the next couple of years who knows?

After thinking about it in every aspect, I am almost sure that removing a bath may be later regretful for me. So, I don’t want to give up on my bath for a shower. Perhaps, I may consider something that can help enjoying me both a bath and shower within the same unit or something bolder than that.

Here are a few options that I am considering if I want to add a shower and enhance functionality.

  • Combo Shower Bathtub

A combo shower bathtub is a practical solution where you want to add dual functionality would sacrificing the space. The good thing is that you don’t need any extra space for it, nor this cost that much as adding a walk-in shower or a new shower enclosure. Moreover, these come in pretty aesthetically pleasing shapes that are L shaped baths and p shaped baths. Installing these with the addition of a glass shower screen will add a touch to elegance in your bathroom. So, it is a great option, especially where space is limited.

  • Bathtub In a Shower Enclosure

Another option that I am considering is adding a bathtub in a shower enclosure. Which is only a practical solution like mine. An 1800 bath in a shower enclosure is a great way to add a touch of luxury to your bathroom. It can also provide a place to relax and unwind after a long day. When choosing a bathtub for your shower enclosure, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, make sure that the tub is the right size for the space. It should be big enough to comfortably accommodate you and your family, but not so large that it dominates the room.

Second, consider the material of the tub. Porcelain and fiberglass are two popular options, but there are also cast iron and acrylic tubs available. Each material has its own benefits and drawbacks, so choose one that will suit your needs and lifestyle.

And last, think about the style of tub you want. There are many different styles available, from traditional clawfoot tubs to more contemporary designs. Whatever you choose, make sure it fits with the overall design of your bathroom.

So, what are your thoughts about it? Don’t forget to leave a comment
