6 TIPS TO SOOTHE A CRYING BABY!

All babies cry, some more than others. Crying is their way of communicating the need for comfort, attention, and care. It can sometimes be tough to figure out the exact reason behind your baby’s crying. Try identifying the underlying cause, if any, but do not panic if there is no evident reason. Babies may cry when they need care or are tired, and it can be difficult to stop them from crying. Some simple ways can help you settle your crying baby.

Ways to stop your baby from crying

  1. Decoding the tears

Your job as a parent is to figure out why your child is crying. It can be daunting if it is your firstborn child, but with time you will be able to understand the tears of your young one. For example, a cry of hunger is short and low-pitched, while a cry of pain might be a sudden long, high-pitched shriek. Once you figure out why your baby is crying, you can handle them better. Crying may also indicate an illness. Check for fever or any other health issue that may irritate your baby and if that is the case, consult a Pediatrician in Islamabad.

  1. Wrap them

Swaddling is one of the best ways to soothe your baby. It is wrapping your baby with its arms straight beside them. It can feel like a warm and snug hug to babies. Keep it tight enough so they can’t move their arms and legs freely. Stop swaddling them when they start to roll on their own. Wrap them in light and comfortable clothing. In the summers, ensure that the cloth is breathable and is not disturbing your baby.

  1. Burp them

Burping is essential for babies after every feed. Babies may also gulp air during feeding, making them feel gassy and bloated. Get them to burp them properly after feeding them to avoid digestion issues. Hold the baby and place them on your shoulder. Pat them gently on the back till they burp. It will release the air accumulation and make the baby feel at ease, decreasing the chances of crying.

  1. Take them out

Put your baby in the rear seat of your car and strap them safely in an infant car seat. Drive around at a low speed, and the motion and noise of a car ride help to calm your baby.

  1. Pacifiers Help

Newborns mostly have an instinctive sucking habit. Some of them suck their thumbs or fingers. It may make them calm. Suckling on a pacifier can also relax a baby. Pacifiers make the crying baby calm and sleepy. Pacifiers are a temporary distraction for them, so pacifiers give you immediate help to calm a fussy baby.

  1. Lullaby or soft music may help

Soft music or lullaby will help to calm the fussy baby. Research shows that lullabies are a great way to calm a baby and even put them to sleep as they have a relaxing effect. Music has a role in your baby’s brain development and growth. Singing lullabies can soothe your sobbing baby.

When to call a doctor

If there is no visible reason behind your baby’s uncontrollable tears, it may be due to a health problem. You may want to consult a Paediatrician from Kulsum International Hospital if that is the case. They can help you identify if there is any pain or other medical cause of your baby’s persistent crying. Colic or teething babies cry more than other babies.
