9 important tips for packing moving boxes

Do you dread packing moving boxes? Understandable. It’s a big job. And if you don’t handle it cleverly, the move can be very chaotic. We have therefore drawn up easy-to-implement packing tips for you.

Keep it clear

Pack room by room. Nothing will be left behind if you finish all the spaces. Write down which room it comes from on every moving box so you can immediately put it in the right place in your new home. Also, note the items in each box. Then check these items off your moving checklist. This way, you track exactly how far you are packing moving boxes.

Pack important items separately

Some items are valuable or extra important: your ID, credit card, keys, or wedding ring. And certain things you need the first day or night immediately after the move. For example, your toiletries and medicines. Pack these separately and put them in a handy place in your new home for immediate access. That way, you don’t lose them, preventing stress.

Bundle parts that belong together

Certain items must be taken apart if you want to put them in moving boxes. Create bundles. Put cables, wires, bolts, nuts, and screws of devices together so that you don’t have to search unnecessarily long to unpack and install them. For example, you can put them in bags and stick them on the relevant device with tape.

Extra tip: take pictures of cables with your computer, stereo, or video equipment. This way, you don’t have to try out all your cables if you want to install the devices in your new home.

Fill the moving boxes as optimally as possible

You prevent damage if you fill moving boxes completely. Half-filled boxes dent during stacking, and items can be damaged. But don’t pack the boxes too full, either. Otherwise, they will break quickly. Instead, try to find a box for each object. Loose items are not useful.

Pack glasses and plates with towels or filling material

You need extra protection for fragile items like crockery and wine glasses. If you place glasses and vases in special dividers and pack plates vertically (set them on their side), you can go a long way. Also, you can pack plates extra safely with towels. A nice combination, because they also have to go with you. In addition, save on packaging materials, such as bubble wrap and wrapping paper. That, again, saves waste. And put socks on your glasses and vases; these function well as packing material. Finally, use old newspapers as padding between your dishes.

Extra tip: label boxes with fragile items. Then the movers will handle it even more carefully.

That’s another way of doing it!

Prevent leakage: close bottles with foil

Nothing is more annoying than wetness in your moving boxes. Unfortunately, you run this risk if you take liquid items with you, such as shampoo, body lotion, hand soap, cleaning agents, or suntan lotion. Solution: cut pieces of cling film and place them over the opening of the bottles. You can still put the cap on it. This prevents the liquid from running out on the side.

Put clothes in garbage bags

Packing moving boxes with clothes is much faster if you use garbage bags. Slide a pile of clothes at once from the wardrobe into a garbage bag and then into the moving box. This saves a lot of work. In addition, the clothes fit neatly together, and you can quickly store them in your new home.

Note: some clothes are so precious that you don’t want to wrinkle them. Purchase a special wardrobe box for this. This is a long box with a rod to hang your clothes on.

Pack moving boxes in an ergonomic way

Don’t overfill boxes. A box of 30 kilograms is very heavy. Distribute the weight evenly among boxes and combine heavy items with light items. This way, you save your back, which you already demand a lot from during the moving day and the days after. In addition, most moving boxes can handle an average of 15 kilograms. The bottom will sag if you put too much in it. Boxes that can handle 30 kilograms are not standard moving boxes and are much more expensive.

Extra tip: place light items on top of heavy items. Otherwise, they may break.

Have someone else pack your moving boxes

Does packing moving boxes take too much time, or are you physically unable to handle it? Then outsource this to a party that specializes in this. Most moving companies offer a packing service. This is a routine job for them. They do it conveniently and quickly, and you have less chance of damaging things. Some moving companies offer the possibility to pack part of your household effects. Think of glassware, crockery, and other fragile items. This way you can choose what you want to do and what you leave to the moving company.

Furthermore, If you don’t have protective packaging material, like a mattress storage bag or other protective coverings to cover your belongings, you can buy them from Britwrap. Britwrap is the leading protective packaging company in the UK.
