Why You Choose Painswick Location

Holiday Cottages in Painswick are popular because this village is a beautiful, peaceful and a largely underrated holiday location. Painswick offers a stylish eatery at The Painswick Hotel, charming pubs, and beautiful countryside walks. Some of the best cottages in Painswick are tucked away in the winding roads, just big enough to fit a horse and cart or they stand proud and handsome on the main streets of the village.

Painswick is becoming increasingly popular with tourists, investors and young couples. A beautiful Cotswolds village situated in the rolling hills between Slad, Sheepscombe and Stroud. Benefiting from the infamous Cotswold stone, wisteria laden homes and the 99 Yew Trees.

This historic village has many legends, one of which is about the 99 Yew Trees. It suggests that whenever the 100th tree is planted, the devil demands that it does not grow, thus there are only ever 99 Yew Trees in the Painswick churchyard. Alternatively, there may only be 99 Yew Trees because the trees thrive over a good source of water and it is believed that there are only enough underwater streams to maintain the currently existing 99 trees.

St Mary’s church is the most prominent building in Painswick and it embodies the great long history of the village. The north aisle of the church was built during the reign of Richard II 1377 – 1377 and rebuilt in 1480 in the unique perpendicular style. The oldest unaltered building in the village is believed to be the old Post Office which is dated back to 1428.

When you are visiting Painswick, you are visiting a deeply historical place, one where it is believed Henry VIII used to visit rather frequently.

Painswick is one of the most beautiful villages in South Cotswolds, and in the entire Cotswolds area for that matter. Luxury holiday cottages in Painswick are not the only elements of the village to admire, but it can only be truly appreciated when you walk the narrow roads and under the yew trees. Why not visit Painswick with your loved ones for your next weekend away? You certainly will not regret it.
