Ariane DeBose was born in Wilmington on January 25, 1991. She studied dance and theatre. After a short time on reality TV, Ariane DeBose went to Broadway, where she was in the original production of Hamilton and was nominated for a Tony Award for her role in summer: The Donna Summer Musical. Early Life:
Her Afro-Puerto Rican father never showed up in DeBose’s life. Gina Ariane DeBose, who is white, raised her in Raleigh and Wake Forest, North Carolina, on her own. DeBose began taking dance classes when he was 3 years old. Her talent was clear right away. In an interview, DeBose’s mother said, “I always like to say that she came out dancing.” When DeBose told her mother she was gay when she was 13, her mother didn’t mind.

In 2009, when Ariane DeBose was 18 years old, she was on the reality show So You Think You Can Dance. She was in the top 20 before she was taken out. Even though she didn’t win, she moved to New York because of the show. DeBose told Latina magazine, “When I left the show, I knew I wanted to do more than just dance. I missed the competition of singing, dancing, and acting at the same time.”

Ariane DeBose was cast on the movie of the same name by Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst. DeBose was on the national tour of the show, and in 2012 she made her Broadway debut.

At first, Ariane DeBose didn’t want to try out for the part of Anita in Steven Spielberg’s remake of the movie West Side Story. She told Elle UK, “I thought they would want someone who fits the entertainment industry’s idea of what a Latina looks like, and I don’t.”
After DeBose agreed to try out for the part, she asked for more time to prepare because she was already starring in summer: The Donna Summer Musical on Broadway. So, when Spielberg asked her to read, she had to say no, but he was fine with her coming in at another time.
Cast as Anita:
Before Ariane DeBose was cast as Anita, DeBose said that she wanted the role to talk about how being Afro-Latina can mean getting a “double dose of prejudice.” She said that Tony Kushner, who wrote the screenplay for the movie, heard her and helped add her story to the dialogue.

Rita Moreno played Anita in the 1961 movie version of West Side Story. Also had a part in the new movie. TV and Movies:
In 2016, DeBose was a guest on the TV show Blue Bloods. In 2020, a recording of Hamilton was put on Disney+, and DeBose was part of the ensemble. In the same year, DeBose played Alyssa Greene, a popular cheerleader, in the Netflix musical Prom.
Host of Saturday Night:
In 2021, DeBose used her skills on the Apple TV+ show Schmigadoon! She acted with Keegan-Michael Key and Kristin Chenoweth in this spoof of old musicals. In January 2022, DeBose will also be the host of Saturday Night Live.
Personal life:
DeBose used to be with Broadway props master Jill Johnson. She is dating Broadway costume designer Sue Makkoo and living with her in a country cottage in up-to-date New York.
Activism:
DeBose and Jo Ellen Pellman, who she worked with on the movie “Prom,” started the Unruly Hearts Initiative to help LGBTQ+ youth. She said, “Jo Ellen and I made UHI as a way to connect young people and their parents to resources that can help them figure out who they are on their journey.” The group has raised money for The Trevor Project, Point Foundation, and Covenant House. DeBose is also on the board of directors for Covenant House.
