Different Types of Tattoo Machines

Behind the infinite variety of tattoos are the tattoo artists’ expertise and equipment quality. Professional tattoo artists with extensive experience have a range of different types of tattoo machines for their trade. So, let’s delve into how modern tattoo machines are classified and used.

COIL TATTOO MACHINES

The Rumaki was the first device to automate the work of tattoo artists. It was inspired by Thomas Edison’s self-writing pen, which had been patented in 1891 by Samuel O’Reilly.

Frame. This is the structural basis of the working components. It’s composed of a variety of steel and non-ferrous alloys in various shapes. Manufacturers strive to make it robust, light, and beautiful at the same time. FK Irons’ heavy-duty aluminum machines weigh approximately 130g, for example.

  • Coils. This is a pair of electromagnets with a steel core. They operate the mechanism. There are eight, ten, twelve, fourteen, and sixteen-wraps coils depending on the amount of wraps – layers of wound copper wire – used in the design. The number of turns increases the machine’s electromagnetic power, but it also adds weight. The majority of tattoo procedures are completed on 10- and 12-wraps machines. • Capacitor. This is a microprocessor-controlled device that prevents sparks when an electrical circuit is shut or opened.
  • Armature Bar. It’s a magnet with a spring attached to it. It performs the machine’s oscillating motions, allowing it to operate. Under the action of the electromagnetic field from the coils, it is pushed out and repelled by the power of the spring.
  • Springs. There are two metal plates. The armature bar is kept inside the frame by one of them. The contact, which is affixed to the armature bar, is the other.
  • Contact Screw. The screw is made of either copper or silver. It’s a contact pair that includes a second spring, which generates the striker motion when it closes and opens. The screw is used to adjust the needle’s depth and frequency of piercing.

The machine’s operation and quality of the tattoo are determined by the quality of each component.

Types of coil tattoo machines

The following are some of the different types of coil tattoo guns: The liner’s duty is to quickly inject the ink so that it does not have time to spread. Its frequency is 120-150 Hz. Fast flow provides distinct fine lines and color separation. The liner is lighter, has a more rigid contact spring, and the distance between the spring and the armature bar is 4-5 millimeters. It cannot be used to color because of this.

Shader. It is used to cowl extensive regions and convey shadows. Shader coils have extra wraps, the touch spring is softer, and the rate is slower. The frequency is 60-a hundred Hz. The needle is inserted for an extended duration of time, permitting the tattoo ink to diffuse for the duration of the pores and skin tissue. The hole among the armature bar and spring is 9-10 mm. This type of tattoo system does now no longer will let you draw an outline.
