Five Best Hoverboards For Kids

1. Our Pick: The Best Overall Hoverboard (With Bluetooth, or Without)

GoTrax Nova Pro and Nova

Out of all the hoverboards that we tested, the Nova Pro and GoTrax Nova were the most popular. The hoverboards for kids were easy to use indoors and out, and they accelerated at a steady but smooth pace. These hoverboards from GoTrax were quick to respond to rider’s movements. However, they also provided plenty of self-balancing corrections to boost confidence and keep children steady on their feet.

The Nova and Nova Pro both have a maximum speed of 6.2. However, the Pro has a few more features. The Pro’s maximum ride time per charge is 5 minutes, compared to Nova’s 3.1. Additionally, the Pro can be paired with your smartphone via bluetooth.

The Pro has 6.5-inch all-terrain tires, whereas the Nova has 6.5 inches. The Pro’s all-terrain tires were preferred by our testers. They found the Pro’s tread a bit more bumpy on asphalt and sidewalks than the Nova’s. The GoTrax Nova is less expensive and will keep your children happy unless you plan to ride longer distances on dirt trails.

2. Children Hoverboards for Beginners

Swagtron Twist

The Swagtron Twist is ideal for beginners and those who are more timid. The Twist reacts less to sudden and small movements than other hoverboards. The Twist is more patient and doesn’t respond to every little movement they make while they learn how to control it.

The Twist’s 6 mph max speed is slightly slower than other boards’ 6.2 or 10 mph. This helps new riders feel more at ease.

This Swagtron hoverboard comes with a LiFePO4 lithium-ion battery that is safer and more stable. The Swagtron hoverboard battery is much more stable than the Lithium-ion batteries used in other hoverboards. It also requires less “babysitting” and comes with a 5-year warranty.

3. Budget Pick: The Best Cheap Hoverboard For Kids

GoTrax Glide

We recommend that you spend less than $100 on a hoverboard and opt for the more expensive GoTrax Glide. The Glide was fun, responsive, quick and responsive. Even more experienced riders found it to be more enjoyable than other models.

The Glide is a better hoverboard than other cheaper options, such as the $98 Hover-1 Revel from Walmart. It has a greater weight capacity, a stronger motor and, most importantly, a self-balancing mode.

The self-balancing mode of a hoverboard helps riders stay upright and steady on the board. This technology was introduced in 2017 and has greatly improved hoverboard stability. Hover-1 Rebel doesn’t have a “self-balancing mode”. The Hover 1 hoverboard can be a little jerky in performing simple movements. It can still be ridden, but it requires more concentration and effort.

The Hover-1 Revel has the weakest motor of all hoverboards we tested, with just 220 W vs. the GoTrax Glide’s 400 W. Furthermore, the Hover-1 Rebel is only 130 pounds lighter than the GoTrax’s 220 lbs!

4. Offroad hoverboard

GoTrax E4

The GoTrax E4 hoverboard is built to last, with larger 8-inch tires and 500 Watts combined motor power. The E4’s extra-wide 3.25″ tires (standard tires are 1.75″) made it easy to roll over small obstacles that other hoverboards had difficulty or failed to overcome.

The E4 all-terrain hoverboard won’t take it over the mountains or through the woods. However, it can roll up cracks in concrete, uneven concrete slabs and even gravel. Our hoverboards with standard 6.5″ wheels had to be lifted and carried over uneven surfaces several times during our testing. The E4 was able to do this without any problems.

The E4 is a great choice for taller and older kids. It has a larger wheelbase and wider foot platforms, which provides more stability. Our 13-year old tester, who is 5’10”, had a much better balance on the E4 than the Swagtron Twist, which we recommend for beginners.

5. The Best Hoverboard for Going Fast and Far

Hover 1 Ultra

The Hover-1 Ultra hoverboard is our fastest. It can travel at a maximum speed 10 mph. The average hoverboard speed for kids is between 6 and 7 mph. Most hoverboards are too fast for children to control with their hands.

For those kids who are well coordinated and want to go fast, Hover 1 Ultra is a smooth ride that features a powerful motor with a battery. The motor and battery allow children to travel faster, as well as farther. The battery can travel up to 12 miles on a single charge, which is approximately 2 – 4 times the distance of a typical hoverboard.

Although the Hover-1 is heavier than other boards it will not be too heavy for children who will need to carry it around long distances. You might not expect flashy features like Bluetooth or colored LED wheels lights.

6. BONUS: Hoverboard Go Carts

Hover-1 Falcon

You are missing an opportunity to see a hoverboard attachment live in action! The “hoverboard seat” adds an extra element of fun to any hoverboard. It turns it into a mini-go cart. These karts have handle pedals that allow you to steer and control your speed.

There are many attachments online that can be used, but the Hover-1 Falcon is our favorite. It has received excellent reviews and didn’t disappoint any of our testers. The kart attaches easily to the hoverboard via Velcro straps. The Falcon can be adjusted to suit a variety of heights by adjusting the distance between the footrest and the seat.

The Falcon hoverboard cart is unique because it has a fog blaster that emits LED lights and sounds. It attaches to your kart. Although the blaster is certainly cool, it must be activated by pressing a button on unit. The rider cannot turn it on and off while riding. We don’t recommend this unit for its Blaster feature.

They are all the best hoverboards that are mentioned above and they are all of high-quality technology.
