Canada is a very popular destination, in my practice, 3 out of 10 applications come from this country. This is not surprising, Canada has a huge number of colleges, six of which are among the top world leaders.
A quality higher education is the key to success in the modern world.
Parents who want to send their children to higher education abroad often contact me, and it becomes news to them that two years of study at a university in their home country or a year of a preparatory course abroad are required for admission.

Both the first and second options are quite expensive. Here Canada becomes a real lifesaver, as it is ready to accept Russian students right after school.
Additional exams are not required. A year before graduation from a secondary school, a future applicant applies to a college or university of their choice.
The university administration sends a list of documents that must be submitted to consider the graduate’s application.
Package of documents
Teaching in universities is carried out in English or French. A foreign applicant must prove his knowledge of foreign languages by providing a special certificate.
If an institution of higher education is chosen, in which the main language is English, then a TOEFL certificate will be required.
The cost of testing for this course is $ 250 and you can take it only in 26 cities of Russia, therefore, in order to save money, I recommend taking a trial online test before going to the nearest city with a testing center, this will allow you to determine your level of language proficiency and, if necessary, take online courses preparation for TOEFL.
A resume and a motivation letter of the applicant are attached to the package of documents. A big plus for a positive consideration of the application to the university will be a letter of recommendation from the teachers of the school.
It indicates the main talents and interests of the graduate. It is not necessary to provide a portfolio: the exception is certificates of participation in international competitions and olympiads.
Education in Canada is paid, so the university will require proof of the applicant’s solvency. An extract from the bank is provided: the current account must have an amount equal to at least the price of a year of study at the chosen university plus the cost of living in a student hostel, as well as the amount of travel home.
Which university to choose
The choice is not easy, so many students first come to Canada for an open day and after that make the final choice
When choosing a university, international cooperation programs are attractive, for example, one of my clients received two diplomas at once in four years of study: one from the university where he studied and the second from the partner’s university.
I also managed to talk with Yana (who studies in Canada) and she shared her experience, you can read here: Education in Canada: Russian student in Toronto
When choosing a university, they pay attention to what degree the graduate wants to receive after graduation:
- bachelor’s degree, 4 years of study – college;
- master’s degree, + 4 years – college, university
- doctoral degree, + 3 years – university
At the same time, a college education is much cheaper, and it is easier and more economical to enter a university after 2 years of college.
Of course, it is important to consider the chosen profession. If it is applied in nature, I recommend going to college. They are in Canada as practice-oriented as possible. If the specialty is related to science and requires academic knowledge, it is better to stop at the university.
Also, when choosing a specialty, it is important to note that Canada produces some of the strongest specialists in the field of engineering, IT technologies, and business.
A special place here should be given to medical education. The country is in dire need of qualified medical personnel, in connection with this, specialists in this field are in great demand, and education is of high quality.
The duration of education, of course, is long 11-13 years, but you will receive it not at boring lectures, but in practice in real hospitals and laboratories.
Employment
It is important for all students whether they will be able to do an internship and what will happen after graduation
Starting from the second year of study at a college or university, students have an internship depending on the specialty they study.
It is important to note that practice is usually paid.
Upon graduation from the university, foreign students are allowed to extend their visa for 2-3 years and get a job in their specialty. At the same time, as a rule, there are no problems with employment. 90% of the students whom I sent to Canada found a job in the first six months after graduation.
*By the way, there is a nice bonus for those wishing to shorten the duration of their studies in Canada! Write, I’ll tell you)
