Study in Canada | Visas to Study in Canada

Have you already decided to study in this first-world country? If the answer is yes, continue reading to find out about the types of visas you can apply for, the process you must go through to get them, and what you must do to meet your goal.

How to Study in Canada? How to get Student Visa?

Student Visa: What I need?

Although there are situations in which this type of visa is not required to attend a school in Canada, such as, for example, if the course lasts less than 6 months, the documents that will be requested to apply to it are:

  • Valid passport.
  • Photocopy of the biometric data page of the passport.
  • 6 passport-size photographs.
  • Acceptance letter from the institute or university, certified by the Canadian government, where you want to study.
  • Economic solvency.
  • Certificate of Acceptance in Quebec (CAQ). This requirement applies only if you wish to study in this province.
  • Proof of payment of the visa.

Process

Are you interested in applying for this scholarship? We tell you how, step by step:

  1. Decide which program and university or college you would like to be admitted to. Remember that the primary step, before even seeing the visa, is to have the acceptance letter from the institution where you will carry out your course.
  2. If you are looking for it externally, you must compare the programs and opportunities universities, and colleges offer before deciding where you want to study.
  3. If you are studying at the university and are interested in spending a semester elsewhere, have you already approached the academic exchange department?
  4. Ask about when, how and how much to pay, what documents you must send, if you need to translate your documents and in what format you have to send them, etc. Consider these essential points if you are interested in living this experience.
  5. Have you decided what you want to study? Perfect! Contact the university or collegeHowever, the admission process varies according to the institution.
  6. It is essential to have the first contact, via email or phone call, to request information, let the administrative area know that you are interested in studying at their school, and ask about the facilities.
  7. The programs they offer, their teachers, their tuition costs and what opportunities they offer international students.
  8. If you think you will forget a question, it might be a good idea to make a list of your concerns before calling so that you can be well informed about everything that involves the institution.
  9. Admitted. Great, let’s go for the document collection. Have you already done the admission process, and were you authorized to study where you wanted? Incredible!
  10. It is time to collect the documents requested by the Canadian authorities to apply for the visa. In the previous section, we listed them for you; investigate if it is necessary to apostille and translate your documents.
  11. Go to the Canadian embassy in your city to ask in what format you have to take them. We recommend that you make a digital copy in case it becomes necessary to use them during your stay in Canada.
  12. Wait for notification from the Canadian authorities. After submitting the documents to the Canadian authorities, obtaining a student visa can take several weeks.
  13. The application must be submitted to the embassy or through each country’s visa application centres (VACs). The process takes about 4 weeks and costs USD 116; in the case of Quebec, the cost is USD $86.
  14. Are you already visaed? Excellent! Now only the best part remains, planning the trip. Once your visa is accepted, you can start looking for flights to start your trip.
  15. Remember to make a budget that contemplates at least the first month of your stay in Canada, in which you establish yourself and decide if you would like it or not. , work alongside your studies.
  16. Expenses such as, for example, transportation, food, water, electricity, rent, gas, etc., are essential when putting together this first phase of the plan.

Can you study and work?

With this type of visa, yes. Working in Canada while studying under any Department of Citizenship and Immigration (CIC) student work program is possible.

You can study and work during your stay in the country under the following categories:

  • On campus without a Work Permit.
  • Off-campus with a Work Permit.
  • In Cooperation and Internship Programs, where work experience is part of the curriculum, with a Work Permit.

After graduation, as an international student, you can apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program, in which it is possible to expand the work permit for the duration of the study program, up to a maximum of three years.

Visa electronic travel authorization (eTA)

An eTA is electronically linked to your passport; with it, you can travel to Canada as often as you like for short stays (usually for up to six months at a time).

It is valid for five years or until the passport expires, depending on which of these two situations occurs first. If you get a new passport, you must get a new eTA.

IMPORTANT: This visa does not guarantee entry to Canada. When you arrive in Canada, a border services officer will ask to see your passport and other documents, and you will need to convince him that you are admissible to enter the country.

What I need?

The documents that will be requested are:

· A valid passport from a country that is visa-exempt

· A valid email address

One of the following acceptable payment methods to pay the $7 CAD fee (non-refundable)
