Paper Jams and Ghost Jams

If your Printer is telling you that there is a paper jam, There are a couple of possible culprits. First, ensure that the paper is aligned correctly within the tray. It could become a problem if your paper is out of alignment even a tiny bit. In most cases, taking all the papers from the tray and then lining it up more closely to the feeding elements can eliminate the issue. Paper trays are made to accommodate a specific capacity of paper. For some, it may be 100 sheets, while others could accommodate a whole ream.

Go through the user manual of your Printer to determine the recommended capacity for paper. An overfilled paper tray will instantly trigger a paper jam alarm on your Printer. Ensure that the media type selection in the Printer’s menu corresponds to the print you are currently working on. Printers have settings for papers like photo paper, card stock, or presentation papers. Thinner paper can result in an issue with the paper if settings are not correct, and a quick switch of the paper type will fix your paper jam problem immediately and resolve Epson printer won’t print error.

The pickup rollers are rollers that take papers from the tray and then feed it into the Printer. These rollers have also been identified as causing jams after repeated usage and may eventually need to be replaced.

If your Printer tells you that there’s a jam in the paper, but there’s not there, there’s likely a mechanical issue. Do not immediately hit your Printer with the field, however! When looking for a solution to Ghost-Jammed HP(r) printer, Neal Poole discovered that sometimes natural jams in the paper could leave a trace behind, disrupting printer operations long after the jam has been removed.

Small pieces of paper debris lodged between gears that move the rear duplexer could cause your Printer to the impression that something is inside the duplexer and not in the actual gear. Check the mechanical components surrounding the ghost-like jam and ensure that they function without a hitch (some models will give you more precise information on which jam is in the first place, particularly for more intricate office equipment.

  • Remove the rear duplexer, and grasp any or all four of them. Are they moving freely? If not, the second step would be.
  • Contact two contacts made of brass using the help of a paper clip. Bridging the contact causes the Printer to think that the duplexer has been installed, and you’ll need to keep this contact throughout the last step.
  • Click “OK” in the Control Panel.
  • Look at the black plastic gears on the left side. Do they move quickly, stop, skip, freeze, or even jam? If the latter is true, you’ve got pieces of paper you’ll need to remove off the gears.
  • Take the roller with the largest diameter and turn it. Look for paper shards inside the gear’s teeth.
  • After the gears and rollers rotate freely, you’ve eliminated the ghost blockage, and you’re free to take off the paper clip and put it back together.

Unplug your Printer and restart the sensor if you still receive a paper jam message after cleaning.

Printer Driver Problems

It’s not always the hardware that’s to blame. The driver for your Printer acts as an intermediary between the operating system and the Printer. As with other program drivers, drivers get out of date or cease working for your OS following an update. If your Printer doesn’t respond to simple commands or frequently experiences crashes, a driver upgrade can fix the problem quickly. There’s a chance you’ve got the wrong driver installed on your computer that isn’t compatible with your device. You can uninstall the driver on your desktop and then change it to a more current version, usually will have your desktop and Printer chatting again.
