Several washing detergents have been formulated to be used and clean the clothes effectively at lower temperatures. It is great for the environment as it can save on energy and power required to heat the water, and it can save money as well. But, it is still advised that you do maintenance washing frequently to clean away bacteria, mold and grease that hasn’t been killed off by washing at 40° C or 30° C. Hot Washes – Ideal for Soiled Laundry

Washing on hotter temperatures may give better results compared to lower temperatures. It isn’t suggested that all clothes are washed on higher temperatures, it must not only be for heavily soiled laundry such as bed sheets, towels and baby nappies. Hot washes may be used for heavily soiled laundry, however it is recommended that you check the label first to make sure it is alright to do so. Washing on higher temperatures can lead to greater electricity bills, as greater amounts of energy are used. Heavily soiled laundry like towels, bed linens and similar garments have to be washed at high temperatures for the best results.
How to Wash Soiled Laundry?
Soiled laundry and items like towels from someone with a known infection such as clostridium difficile should be washed at 60° C or higher temperature.
1. When taking the laundry out of the bag, you should:
- Wear rubber or plastic gloves that can be thrown away or washed after using.
- Keep the laundry separate from other clothes.
- Wash your hands using water and soap, taking the gloves off.
2. Rip the bag open in a careful manner and put the laundry straight into the washing machine. Don’t overload the machine though.
3. Throw the plastic bag in the dustbin with the general waste straight away. Throw the gloves in the dustbin and wash them in detail in case you want to reuse them.
4. Always wash your hands with water and soap after taking off the gloves.
5. Firstly, use the pre-wash cold rinse cycle. Then, wash on the hot wash cycle at 60° C or more in case the material allows. Don’t soak.
6. You must tumble dry the laundry if possible. Also, if possible, air dry on a clothes line and then iron them.
7. In case the outside of the machine has come in contact with soiled clothing, you should wash it with hot soap and water. So, follow these tips and wash soiled laundry perfectly!
