Slovakian passport holders are eligible to obtain the CANADA VISA FOR SLOVAKIA CITIZENS (electronic travel authorisation). The Canadian government introduced this online travel permit for selected nationalities in 2016. It makes the whole process to apply for and receive a valid entry into Canada significantly quicker and more convenient.
The Canadian eTA is electronically linked to the holders’ passports. It has a validity of 5 years (except if it is granted to a traveller with a passport that will expire in less than this period), in which case, the Canadian eTA will expire along with the said passport.
WHY DO SLOVAKIAN NATIONALS NEED THE CANADIAN ETA?
Slovakians are amongst the nationalities who do not need a visa to enter Canada. The electronic travel authorisation grants them entry into the country for tourism, business, or transiting through. They can use this electronic travel document for multiple visits within its validity period and must plan that none of their visits exceeds 180 days.
Slovakian passport holders interested in relocating to Canada for a more stable period of time and interested in full-time employment or academic opportunities should note the eTA does not cover them. For these purposes, they should organise a visit to the Canadian embassy in Bratislava and request further information.
CANADA ETA REQUIREMENTS FOR SLOVAKIA
Slovakian nationals must read through the requirements for the Canadian eTA before beginning their application form. The main conditions they must meet are the following:
- Have an electronic passport compatible with the Canadian eTA
- Supply a debit or credit card
- Register with a frequently used email id
- Travel to Canada by air only

The electronic passport (also known as biometric) is a secure travel document with a digital chip on its front cover. Most international airports have automatic scanners on arrival or transiting gates that reduce the time at border controls. Slovaks with a biometric passport must ensure this document will be valid for at least 6 months on the date they reach Canada.
Slovakian travellers must note they can only enter Canada with the eTA by air. They should therefore ensure they select one of Canada’s international airports for their arrival.
They must also confirm they register with an email address they frequently use. The Canadian government will send them the confirmation of their eTA by email only. Lastly, Slovakian applicants must confirm the credit or debit card they intend to use has been previously activated for online payments.

In addition, Slovakian passport holders will be required to answer several health and security-related questions on the form. They should confirm all the information they share is correct. Any mistakes can lead to delays or refusal of the travel authorisation.
Slovakian citizens conclude the eTA application process by paying the processing fee. Most international credit and debit cards are authorised, and Slovaks must simply confirm they have been previously activated for online transactions.

The Canadian government evaluates the applications received and usually replies within 24 hours. Slovaks will receive a confirmation email from the Canadian authorities. The Canadian eTA is automatically linked to their passport. Slovakian visitors do not need to print out a copy before their arrival. The Canadian Immigration Service recommends Slovakian visitors to submit their form at least 3 business days to account for busy touristic periods.

TRAVELLING TO CANADA WITH THE ETA FROM SLOVAKIA
Slovakian nationals are eligible to visit Canada once they receive notification of their eTA approval. As mentioned above, they must remember to book their arrival at one of Canada’s international airports only. They must also plan their arrival and departure dates to comply with the eTAs validity periods.
Once they land in Canada, they can head straight to the border controls with electronic scanners to display their passports before being granted entry into the country.
