How to reach Everest Base Camp
Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek begins with an thrilling drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu which takes around 8-9 hours by jeep. The basic trekking route from Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek is spectacular. Start our trek from Phaplu to Nunthala, where we can find Takshindo Gompa and old cheese factory. The trek gently down to the Dudh Koshi River passing through terrace farm land and small Rai and Sherpa settlements. From Nunthala, you will ascent towards Kharikhola and then reach Buspa. Ascend forward to Khari La Pass (2,880m) from Buspa as you pass through beautiful lush rhododenron and oak forest and Sagarmatha National Park. You will reach Surke a beautiful small Sherpa village at the down hill of Lukla.
From Surke hike towards Phakding crossing a road junction between Jiri and Lukla. Now, you will hike towards Namche Bazaar (3,440m) from Phakding which is also known as Sherpa capital. Ascend froward from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,867m), where you will start to see the glimpse of Himalayas. While trekking towards Pheriche (4,371m) you will visit Buddhist Monastery, and villages. Ascend from Pheriche to Lobuche (4,930m) of Khumbu Glacier for panoramic views of mountains such as AmaDablam and Tawache. From Lobuche hike forward to Gorakshep (5,164m) as Gorakshep is the junction of major trekking point of EBC trek and Kala Pathar. You will observe fascinating view of Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse and Mt Nuptse and many other mountains. From Gorakshep early in the morning, hike towards Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and reach the view point of Kala Patthar (5,644m) to enjoy the panoramic view of Mount Everest (8,848m) and serenity of the place. After spending the time at Kala Patthar, we hike back to Lobuche and to Dingboche. From Dingboche ascend towards Namche Bazaar and to Lukla where the highest elevated airport of Nepal resides. Take a flight from Lukla to Kathmandu as you can observe scenic mountain view from flight.
Best time to visit Phaplpu – EBC
The best time to trek the Phaplu – EBC is Spring (March – May) and Autumn (September – November) with cool temperature and clear blue sky. The trekking routes is full of beautiful dense rhododendron forests and green valleys.
It is also possible to hike in December and January but be thoughtful about the weather and snowy climate.
