Probability Sampling – Role of This Technique in Quantitative Research

“The social sciences have a critical contribution to make in helping us understand, imagine, and craft a more sustainable future for all.” United Nations

Every field has its contribution to the advancement of mankind varying from arts to sciences and social sciences also had a fair share of it in that. Social science is all about the relationship between people and society along with the development and operations of society. Economics, political science, psychology, sociology, history, and linguistics are a few courses in social sciences. Statistics is a key feature of all the social sciences subjects; be it psychology, economics, or political sciences.

Statistics is basically a way to gather, analyze, and interpret data. This subject gets overwhelming for students because of so many calculations and students opt to Take My Statistics Class help in such times. It is okay to take academic assistance to ease your mind sometimes especially when it is statistics because it is such an extensive subject that it can become intimidating sometimes.

However; its importance cannot be ignored as it helps people make informed decisions in governments, businesses, and organizations with the use of quantitative research. This post highlights probability sampling- an important technique in quantitative research.

Quantitative research:

Quantitative research is the type of research method in which numerical data is collect and analyze to define characteristics and to find correlations.

This type of research method is use for subjects like algebra, statistics, psychology, linguistics, and so on. Students not only buy writing help with these subjects but also opt for Take My Algebra Class, psychology class, or other such classes to ease their academic burden.

This type of research method mainly deals with numbers, objective stances, and logic. The focus of this research method relies on numeric and change data based on convergent reasoning. This data is collect by measuring things with the help of numerical comparisons and statistical analyses.

It is mainly use for finding facts about social phenomena. Statistical assumptions and conditions are used as a study design in this research form (bestassignmentwriters, 2019). The data is collected from existing and potential individuals using sampling methods, online surveys, online questionnaires, and so on.

Sampling Method:

The sampling method is basically a quantitative research method in which a sample from a group of people is collected.

This is the sample that will take part in your research method and you will conclude the hypothesis based on this sample which eventually represents the whole group.

It is a technique (procedure or device) employed by a researcher to systematically select a relatively smaller number of representative items or individuals (a subset) from a pre-defined population to serve as subjects (data source) for observation or experimentation as per objectives of his or her study (Sharma, 2017).

Types of sampling:

The above-mentioned strategies are adapted to two main types of sampling research methods. These two types are;

1.      Probability sampling:

It is the type of sampling method in which a sample from a population is selected based on the principle of randomization.

This method basically involves the random selection of the people ultimately making a strong statistical inference about the whole group.

Even though; probability sampling is comparatively more complex, more time-consuming, and more costly than non-probability sampling still it is quite popular because it allows the researcher to come up with a sample that accurately represents the real-life population of interest.

Probability sampling is selected by looking into different factors. These factors are;

  • To select such a design that minimizes sampling error.
  • To use the method that reduced time consumption.
  • To conduct research in a way that minimizes total cost.
  • To select on the basis of the characteristics of the survey frame for accuracy.

Four strategies are used to conduct this type of sampling. These strategies are as follows;

·         Simple random sampling:

This is the method of probability sampling in which each individual in the population has an equal chance of being selected. Random number generators or other such tools are used to conduct such type of sampling.

·         Systematic sampling:

This type of sampling is comparatively easier to conduct as individuals are chosen at regular intervals. Each member of the population is mentioned with a number to make it easier for the researcher.

·         Stratified sampling:

This method involves the division of the chosen population into the sub-population. It provides more précised and accurate calculations as it represents each sub-group properly.

·         Cluster sampling:

It also involves the division of the population into sub-groups but each sub-group has certain similar characteristics to the whole sample.

Role of probability sampling in quantitative research method:

The use of probability sampling in quantitative research methods is the most common and accurate choice because it produces results that are representative of the whole population.

2.      Non-probability sampling:

This type of sampling method is based on the selection of a non-random method but not every individual in the group has the chance of being included. Even though; this method is cheaper and easier but it has more chances of error.

This means that the inference concluded by using this sampling method will be less accurate than the probability sampling method.

The strategies used to conduct the non-probability sampling method are as follows;

·         Convenience sampling:

It is the sampling in which such an individual is selected who is most accessible to the researcher.

·         Voluntary response sampling:

People volunteer themselves for research purposes in this method.

·         Judgment sampling:

It allows the researcher to use his expertise in the field to select a sample that seems to be most useful for ongoing research.

·         Snowball sampling:

The selection of more people through the already present participants is categorized as snowball sampling.

Conclusion:

Probability sampling is an important method used to carry out quantitative research to measure the results accurately. Hopefully; the above-mentioned post will help the students in understanding the importance of probability sampling while conducting quantitative research.
