TIME CHANGE

Like every year, the clocks of several citizens of the world are delayed one hour on these dates. This is the case of those who live in the Member States of the European Union, who in the early hours of this Saturday, October 30 to Sunday 31, will have to leave summer time behind. So when the clock strikes 3:00, it will be 2:00 . . With this change you will gain an hour of sleep that night, but from then on, each day will rise and fall earlier.

The European Union is not the only one that changes the time twice a year (at the end of October and at the end of March). The United States also does it, although on different dates and with some exceptions, as there are areas that do not follow the time change of the rest of the country. On the European continent, countries such as Russia or Turkey stand out, which do not currently change the time. In Latin America, several countries tried the time modifications in the past, but few keep them today, as is the case on the African continent.

Fewer than 40% of the world’s countries currently adjust time, although more than 140 have implemented time change at some point in the past. The original objective of the measure was to match the hours of activity with those of sunlight, to take advantage of the hours of natural light, limiting the use of artificial lighting and heating.

Summer time 2021: When to adjust the clock in Mexico?

The next adjustment to the clock represents days daylight saving time with more natural daylight and they will seem longer, due to the feeling that “night takes longer to come”

Winter time will end in Mexico next Sunday, April 4, 2021, to make way for summer time 2021, so the clock must be advanced one hour.

Although in the border strip, which includes 33 municipalities of Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, the new schedule will begin on Sunday, March 14, 2021; because they follow the change of summer as they do in the United States, so they will modify the clock:

•Baja California : Ensenada, Mexicali, Rosarito Beach, Tecate and Tijuana.

•Chihuahua : Ascension, Benavides, Coyame del Sotol, Guadalupe, Janos, Juarez, Ojinaga and Praxedis G. Guerrero.

•Coahuila : Acuña, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jiménez, Nava, Ocampo, Piedras Negras and Zaragoza.

• Nuevo León : Anahuac and Los Aldama.

•Tamaulipas : Camargo, Guerrero, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, Matamoros, Mier, Miguel Alemán, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Río Bravo and Valle Hermoso.

For the rest of the country, it is recommended that on the night of Saturday, April 3, the clock be advanced one hour, before going to sleep, so that activities can start normally and on time the following day.

However, it must be taken into account that multiple mobile devices and some smart watches usually change the time automatically at 2:00 am, although this option must be activated; which can be checked in their configuration or settings.

Then, DST 2021 will come to an end until Sunday, October 31 at 2:00 am, when DST 2021 then begins.

Why and in what states is the time change made?

According to the Ministry of Energy ( Sener ), since 1996 the time change has been made throughout Mexico , including Puebla . , simultaneously; except for the border strip, which includes Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, during summer and Sonora and Quintana Roo in winter.

This is due to a decree that indicates that it seeks to save electricity, taking advantage of the natural light of summer, in this case. This also saves money.

So the next adjustment to the clock represents days with more natural light time and therefore they will seem longer, due to the feeling that “night takes longer to arrive”.
