What is a MAAT qualification?

AAT training

Full membership in the AAT (MAAT) is a globally recognised professional designation in accounting and finance. It demonstrates to companies and clients that you have a high level of education and experience, as well as a commitment to continuing to study and update your abilities.

MAAT is a quality mark that may decide in hiring accounting and finance personnel for any company.

You can apply to join AAT as a full member once you’ve finished the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting (or MAAT).

What exactly is MAAT qualification?

MAAT is AAT’s entire membership. It’s a professional designation in accounting and finance that’s recognised all around the world. It demonstrates that you have a high level of education and experience, as well as a dedication to continuing to improve and update your abilities.

Who is eligible to apply for MAAT?

If you have one of the following attributes, you are qualified to apply for MAAT:

AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting completed

ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or ICAEW full or part qualification

A complete AIA, CAI, IFA, NIAT, ATSA (previously AATSA), or NZICA qualification.

Professional membership in one of the organisations as mentioned earlier or SCAAK

A degree in accounting or finance from one of AAT’s partner institutes is required.

What are MAAT’s advantages?

MAAT is an internationally recognised symbol of distinction, and employers searching for the top employees frequently check for MAAT designation.

How to apply for MAAT membership?

Experience in the workplace

Relevant job experience indicates that you’ve put your qualifications’ knowledge, and abilities to good use.

You’ll have to explain how you’ve demonstrated a variety of competencies. Teamwork and communication skills are among the five personal effectiveness abilities. You must also select a technical skill in a financial area in which you have at least six months of expertise.

You can acquire these skills in various professions, but all experience must be within the previous five years. Part-time, self-employed, and volunteer employment can all be included.

Your personal information and statement

To apply, you must first complete our suitability exam and then sign our statement.

You’ll also have to pay a £50 one-time entry charge and a £167 yearly subscription price.

We’ll only charge you the full member pricing from the day your subscription ends if you apply for full membership while still a student or affiliate.

You must pay Your membership premium annually to keep your MAAT status. Every year, we’ll send you an official renewal notice that you may also read online.

Reference

The AAT requires a professional reference. The referee should be familiar with your work, work in a senior position, and have worked with you for at least six months.

If a friend or family is a qualified accountant or an AAT approved member, the AAT will accept their recommendations.

If required, the individual providing the reference might be the same person who confirmed your technical ability in step 1.

Make payment

The final step is to make sure you’ve paid your entrance and annual subscription costs.

The costs are established particularly for MAAT, and you can see the price here. To keep your MAAT qualification active, you must pay the yearly fee regularly. If you already have associate membership, the AAT will only convert your payment to the full member after your existing annual membership expires.

why do you need to have an AAT membership?

Pensions and healthcare

In terms of pensions, the public and non-profit sectors outperform the private sector, with 80 per cent of AAT members in both sectors having a workplace pension plan, compared to 60 per cent in the private sector. A third of private non-accountancy enterprises provides private healthcare. This rate is one in five for accounting businesses and not-for-profits and one in ten for the public sector.

Ongoing learning

If you want to enhance your knowledge and skills, the public sector and accountancy companies are the most likely to offer possibilities — but only marginally. More than half of public-sector companies will pay for you to take extra courses, and 34% will provide you with paid time off to study. In addition, 13% give a bonus for obtaining an AAT qualification.

Nearly two-thirds of accounting companies will pay for continuing education courses, and 37% will pay for study time off. Half of the non-accounting private sector companies will pay you to attend additional classes, and a quarter will provide you with paid time off to study. Completion of AAT credentials is rewarded by one out of every ten private-sector employers.

Nearly half of non-profit organisations will pay for you to attend additional courses, and a quarter will pay for study leave. AAT credentials are rewarded with a 7% bonus.

Work-life balance and family

If you’re one of the halves of employees who feel that having flexible working hours and the option to work from home is the most significant bonus a company can give, you’ll be happy to learn that more than half of public sector jobs provide this. One-third of non-profits and one-fifth of private businesses do the same.

The available non-sectors are the most likely to provide opportunities for families, with 25% of public sector employers and 20% of non-profits providing above-statutory maternity benefits. One out of every five policies is family-friendly.

Conclusion:

Students can use AAT credentials to expand their knowledge beyond what they currently know. These courses address taxation, ethics, accounting, budgeting, systems, financial statements, and various other topics.

While they may be familiar with some aspects of the course material, this is an opportunity to think something bigger about their present position. It can be useful in various scenarios since they can adapt what they’ve learnt to a new role.

With all of these advantages, AAT training might be ideal for taking your accounting staff to the next level. Consider flexibly training your employees to provide your company with a competitive edge.
